MASPETH MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR MURDER AT WOODSIDE BUS STOP
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that Olmedo Osorio was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for fatally stabbing 55-year-old Freddy Jimenez during an argument at a Woodside bus stop in September 2022. Osorio was convicted by a jury in January of multiple charges connected to the deadly incident.
District Attorney Katz said: “After drinking at a local bar and unable to pay his tab, this defendant got into a fight with 55-year-old Freddy Jimenez and stabbed him seven times at a nearby bus stop. This was a senseless act that will leave a lasting impact on the victim’s family and friends. Today’s sentencing will not restore Mr. Jimenez’s life but hopefully his loved ones have a sense of resolution that justice has been served.”
Osorio, 50, of Maspeth, was convicted in January by a jury of murder in the second degree, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Queens Supreme Court Justice Mary Bejarano sentenced him today to 15 years to life in prison.
DA Katz said, according to the charges and trial testimony, on September 19, 2022, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Osorio and Jimenez were patrons of Pasiones Sports Bar on 69th Street in Woodside. The defendant ordered a beer but did not have enough cash to pay for it. The bar staff told Osorio that he could have the drink but then had to leave afterward because he could not pay. The victim and defendant did not interact while inside the bar.
The bar manager told Osorio to leave the bar at approximately 2:19 a.m. after he attempted to order another drink without money to pay.
At approximately 2:38 a.m., Jimenez also left the bar and walked to a nearby bus stop. Osorio was seated at a bus stop across the street and the two men exchanged words. Jimenez approached the defendant, who stood up and pushed the victim. The pair got into a physical altercation and Osorio stabbed Jimenez seven times.
The defendant fled and discarded the knife behind a nearby house.
Jimenez was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined that Jimenez suffered seven stab wounds, one of which penetrated his heart and caused his death.
Assistant District Attorneys Nicole Rella of the District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau, and Abigail Neuviller of Felony Trial Bureau IV, prosecuted the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys John Kosinski, Homicide Bureau Chief, and Karen Ross and Jonathan Selkowe, Deputy Chiefs, and under the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Shawn Clark.
