Press Release
22 REPUTED GANG MEMBERS INDICTED FOR 11 SHOOTINGS IN SOUTHEAST QUEENS
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz and Governor Kathy Hochul, together with New York City Police Department Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, announced today that 22 reputed members of the Blitz Gang 4 gang have been indicted following a long-term investigation into multiple shootings in Southeast Queens dating back to 2023.
The defendants are variously charged in a 97-count indictment with attempted murder, weapon possession, gang assault, conspiracy and other crimes. The gang is allegedly responsible for carrying out 11 shootings and one stabbing which left three people wounded including one man who is now paralyzed.
District Attorney Katz said: “The streets of Queens will be safer this summer thanks to the hard work of prosecutors in my Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau and our NYPD partners. As alleged, the wanton violence between members of Blitz Gang 4 and Floss Money Ballers has terrorized Southeast Queens communities for the past two years, putting countless innocent residents at risk. Nine months ago, my office and our law enforcement partners announced the takedown of the Floss Money Ballers gang. Today’s takedown of alleged members of the BG4 gang marks the next phase in our relentless campaign to dismantle violent criminal enterprises and rid our neighborhoods of the scourge of gun and gang violence. I thank Governor Hochul for providing resources to support our efforts.”
Governor Kathy Hochul said: “Every New Yorker deserves to feel safe. That is why I’ve made historic investments in public safety to ensure our police departments and District Attorneys have the resources they need to keep dangerous criminals off our streets. Cases like this are built through months of determined investigative work, countless hours of dedication, and the unwavering commitment of the law enforcement professionals working behind the scenes to protect our communities. I’m grateful to District Attorney Katz and the NYPD for their partnership and hard work, and I remain committed to supporting their efforts to reduce crime, drive down gun violence, and keep New Yorkers safe.”
Nine of the defendants were arraigned June 25 before Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder and eight were arraigned before Queens Supreme Court Justice Bruna DiBiase. (See addendum.)
Two defendants are in custody on other matters and will be arraigned at a later date. Three remain at large.
District Attorney Katz said that, according to the indictment and investigation, the defendants are all alleged members or associates of the Blitz Gang 4 (BG4) street gang in Southeast Queens, a subset of the Bloods gang, and were based out of the Baisley Park Houses in South Jamaica. Their rivals are various subsets of the MacBallers gang including Money World, Floss Money Ballers and Bad-Co, as well as a Crips subset known as 5th Clocc.
The violence between BG4 and its rivals escalated after 18-year-old Akim Cisse was shot to death by Rayvon Philip, a reputed BG4 member, outside a Springfield Gardens McDonald’s in September 2024.
It was common for the alleged BG4 members and associates to travel to the geographic territories controlled by other gangs and seek out rivals to target in a process known as “spinning” or “drills.” The purported gang members let their intentions be known to associates or rivals through rap music videos posted on Instagram.
The following incidents were charged as part of the alleged conspiracy:
