Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced today that Michael Hall, 36, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the December 2019 fatal shooting of a 45-year-old man in front of a Far Rockaway deli.

District Attorney Katz said, “As a result of his guilty plea, this defendant has taken responsibility for the December 2019 shooting that caused the death of the victim in Far Rockaway. The defendant is now expected to serve a lengthy prison term when he is sentenced later this month. We will not relent in our efforts to hold drivers of crime accountable for their actions.”

Hall, of Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Far Rockaway, Queens, pleaded guilty yesterday to manslaughter in the first degree before Queens Supreme Court Justice Ushir Pandit-Durant. The defendant will be sentenced on May 23, 2022. Justice Pandit-Durant indicated she will order Hall to be incarcerated to 21 years in prison.

According to the charges, said DA Katz, at approximately 6:15 p.m., on December 18, 2019, the defendant was standing in front of a deli convenience store near the intersection of Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 88 Street when he encountered 45-year-old Dion Gumby. Mr. Gumby approached the convenience store and talked briefly with the defendant. At that time, the defendant produced a gun and fired multiple times at the victim causing gunshot wounds to his abdomen, torso and arm. The victim succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

The defendant fled from the scene and was arrested approximately two weeks later.

The investigation was conducted by Detectives Vincent Santangelo and David Pulice of the NYPD Queens Homicide Division.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Courtney Finnerty, of the District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau, prosecuted the case, with the assistance of Assistant District Attorneys Kaitlyn Gaskin and Christina Stephens, under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys Peter J. McCormack III and John Kosinski, Senior Deputy Bureau Chiefs, Karen Ross, Deputy Bureau Chief, and under the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Daniel A. Saunders.
