D.A. BROWN: FAR ROCKAWAY MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR SHOOTING DEATH OF EX-GIRLFRIEND’S BOYFRIEND

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown today announced that a Far Rockaway man has been sentenced to 17˝ years to life in prison for the October 2003 murder of his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend.

The District Attorney identified the defendant as Sean Harris, 37, of 54-30 Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway, Queens, who was last employed as a maintenance worker. The defendant pleaded guilty on August 15, 2005, to Murder in the Second Degree before Queens Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Hanophy.

District Attorney Brown said, “In admitting his guilt, the defendant acknowledged that he was responsible for violently taking the life of a 36-year-old man. The imposed prison sentence reflects the gravity of his offense.”

According to the District Attorney, at the time of his plea, the defendant admitted that, on October 25, 2003, at approximately 1:38 a.m. he fired a loaded .38 caliber revolver twice, fatally shooting Michael McCoy, 36, in the chest. The incident took place inside the defendant’s ex-girlfriend’s Ravenswood Housing Development apartment at 12-15 36th Avenue in Long Island City, Queens.

The investigation was conducted by Detective Cary O’Connor of the New York City Police Department’s 114 Detective Squad.

Assistant District Attorney Peter V. Lomp of the District Attorney’s Homicide Trials Bureau prosecuted the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Jack Warsawsky, Deputy Bureau Chief and the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Charles A. Testagrossa and Deputy Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Daniel A. Saunders.
