D.A. BROWN: QUEENS VILLAGE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER IN STRANGULATION DEATH OF MOTHER
Faces 11 Years In Prison
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced today that a Queens Village man has pleaded guilty to intentional manslaughter in the choking death of his mother in October 2002.
District Attorney Brown said, “The defendant has admitted his guilt, waived his right to appeal and will be sent to prison for the killing of his mother. The defendant used his bare hands to settle a verbal dispute and now must accept the consequences of his actions.”
District Attorney Brown identified the defendant as Robert Jean-Lord, 28, of 92-35 216 Street in Queens Village, Queens. The defendant pleaded guilty yesterday afternoon to Manslaughter in the First Degree before Queens Supreme Court Justice Randall T. Eng who indicated that he would sentence the defendant to a determinate term of eleven years in prison at sentencing on October 31, 2005.
The District Attorney said that the defendant admitted that on October 28, 2002, he became involved in an argument with his mother, Marie Jean-Lord, 52, in their home. The argument became heated and the defendant choked his mother with his bare hands, causing her death. The defendant then took a piece of a broken mirror and slashed his wrists before summoning police to his house.
Assistant District Attorney Jennifer L. Naiburg of the District Attorney's Homicide Trials Bureau prosecuted the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Jack Warsawsky, Deputy Bureau Chief, and the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Charles A. Testagrossa and Deputy Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Daniel A. Saunders.
