BROOKLYN MAN CHARGED IN ROBBERY OF MOTHER AFTER THREATENING THE LIFE OF HER CHILD IN SUBWAY STATION
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said today that a Brooklyn man arrested yesterday is being charged in Queens with the robbery of a woman and her child in a Queens subway station on April 5th.
District Attorney Brown identified the defendant as Lamar Jackson, 31, whose last known address is 2330 W. 11th Street, Brooklyn, New York. The defendant is being charged with Robbery in the First Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Assault in the Third Degree. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
District Attorney Brown said, "It is incomprehensible that anyone - - no matter how desperate - - would put a gun to a 2½ year old child's head and threaten to kill the child in order to rob the mother. This conduct is about as low as human behavior can get."
He will be arraigned late this afternoon or this evening in Queens Criminal Court.
Assistant District Attorney Brian Kohm of the District Attorney's Narcotics Trials Bureau which is under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Kenneth C. Holder and the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney James C. Quinn is in charge of the case.
It should be noted that an arrest is merely an accusation and that a defendant should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
