Community Liaison Office Assistant

The Office of the Queens County District Attorney’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (OIA) was established by District Attorney, Richard A. Brown in January 2015 to address the unique concerns of immigrants and new Americans as they navigate our legal system. OIA is currently seeking a Community Liaison Office Assistant to assist with its efforts to liaise with and engage our immigrant communities.

The Community Liaison Office Assistant may be required to work evening and/or weekend hours based on OIA needs and will perform the following job functions including, but not limited to:

  1. Conversing with immigrant community members by phone, in writing and/or in person regarding their issues, preferably in their native languages, to obtain and convey appropriate information regarding their concerns.
  2. Answering phone calls from community members and routing to the appropriate OIA or other QDA staff members, addressing concerns and/or taking messages or complaints for handling by the OIA staff.
  3. Reviewing, writing and sending emails to community, staff or other agency members regarding OIA initiatives, complaints or other information.
  4. Filing, copying, scanning, typing and/or other related office tasks for OIA initiatives and events.
  5. Interpreting written or spoken communications in other languages from/for immigrant community members and/or for OIA or other QDA staff members, where possible.
  6. Providing assistance on site in the community and/or at OIA events, when requested.

Qualification Requirement:
High school graduation (or its educational equivalent) and at least one year experience working in a professional office setting and/or working with the community and/or in the criminal justice field. Must have working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software, excellent (English) oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others.

Preference will be given to candidates with related experience, education and/or certifications. The ideal candidate will have the ability to fluently speak and write multiple languages specifically Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese), Bengali and/or Korean. Fluency in Spanish or other languages is also a plus.
